Global Immunization Product Suite

Strengthen delivery of immunization services with the OpenSRP 2-based Electronic Immunization Registry (EIR) product suite.

The Global Immunization Product Suite is built on the OpenSRP 2 platform. This is a FHIR-native platform that demonstrates how the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Standards-based, Machine-readable, Adaptive, Requirements-based, and Testable (SMART) Guidelines for routine child immunization can be used to create digital health solutions that are align with WHO guidelines and are adaptable to meet country-specific needs.

It includes an EIR reference application that can be easily adapted to align with national immunization guidelines and deployed to integrate with existing health systems using the HL7 Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) standard.

The EIR app helps frontline health workers accurately register patients, automatically enroll them into immunization care plans, generate follow-up tasks in priority order, and record immunizations to ensure no one falls through the cracks.

The EIR reference application is configurable and can be customized to cater to facility and/or community-based healthcare workers; to target specific age groups or at-risk populations; to include relevant modules for related health service delivery (e.g. growth monitoring, stock management), and to support multiple languages.

It also integrates seamlessly with analytics dashboards for informed decision making (e.g., Akuko, PowerBI), DHIS2 for aggregate reporting, and messaging platforms like RapidPro to create awareness and generate demand for immunization services.

Out-of-the Box Features

Patient Registration – Register patients, capture demographic data, and record their locations. Easy search for patients by name or date of birth.

Personalized Immunization Schedules – View automatically-generated routine child immunization schedules based on common requirements defined in WHO SMART Guidelines format. The schedules can be localized to align with national health policies, guidelines, and programs.

Smart Tasking – Use built-in algorithms and clinical logic to determine which vaccine is due next for each patient and when. Quickly identify patients that are due for vaccination to reduce loss to follow-up cases.

Service Documentation – Record individual immunizations given—including the antigen, dose, lot number, and date given—or multiple at once. Specify reasons for vaccines not given to monitor trends and flag vaccine stock outs.

Adverse Events Monitoring – Record if a patient experiences an adverse event following immunization (AEFI). See alerts about AEFIs on a patient’s profile to prevent recurrence.

Longitudinal Patient Record – View a comprehensive immunization history for each patient, including upcoming vaccines and their due dates.

Offline-First Design – Work seamlessly in remote settings without internet connectivity. Sync data at your convenience.

Stock Calculations – Calculate the consumption of vaccines for reporting and stock management.

Map views – Use the built-in geowidget to identify at-risk communities and plan immunization outreach and campaign activities.

Interoperability – Store data using the FHIR standard, enabling two-way data flows with existing health systems.

Multiple Languages – Available in English, Spanish, and French.

Available Extensions

Customized Workflows – Add or modify workflows to include non-routine immunizations for children and adults, at-risk populations, and/or pandemic response.

Team-Based Care – Build a holistic EIR system with apps for different cadres, such clinicians,  community health workers, and dedicated vaccinators. Sync data across teams to improve continuity of care and coverage.

Real-Time Analytics – Automatically calculate and view summary statistics in the app, avoiding time-consuming paper-based tallies.

Multi-Language Support – The EIR app can be translated into additional languages.

Complementary Modules

Growth Monitoring Module -Monitor height, weight, and mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) of children. Automatically calculate z-scores and flag risk of malnutrition.

Stock Management Module – Manage inventory and prevent stock outs with comprehensive stock management in the app.

Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) Module – Record births and deaths to strengthen vital statistics reporting.

Seamless Integrations

Messaging – Integrate with messaging platforms like RapidPro to send immunization reminders and educational messaging to generate demand for services.

Dashboard – Visualize data in interactive dashboards with rich geospatial support to show coverage and risk areas.

DHIS2 Integration – Seamlessly integrate with DHIS2 for aggregate reporting.

Logistics Management Information System (LMIS) Integrate with an LMIS to streamline supply chain management.

CRVS Integration – Push birth and death records into national CRVS systems to enhance completeness and accuracy of data.
